About Us
Tolsta Community Development Ltd was formed in 2005. It is a company limited by guarantee and is also a registered charity. It's trading subsidiary is Tolsta Power Ltd who owns and operates the community wind turbine. The turbine was commissioned in August 2013 and has been generating electricity into the national grid since then. Profits from the wind turbine are gift aided to Tolsta Community Development Ltd by Tolsta Power for disbursement to the local community through various grant applications.
Objectives
The main objectives are to support the social, educational, cultural and environmental wellbeing of residents of Tolsta by the promotion of community development; provision of assistance to people who are disadvantaged by reasons of age, ill health, financial or other; to support the promotion of education, advancement of arts, culture and heritage and the support of recreational activiities for the community.
As well as providing grant funding, TCDL has purchased assets which are available for use by the community such as a 17 seater minibus, a marquee, barbecue and a portable games pitch.
Polytunnel
TCDL has a polytunnel which provides a variety of vegetables and some bedding plants to the local shop, Buth Tholastaidh, which is also owned by TCDL but run as a separate business.
Visitors are also welcome to visit the polytunnel and buy directly from there.
